Ryan Hunter-Reay tapped to drive for ECR

Ryan Hunter-Reay returns to full-time NTT IndyCar Series competition driving the No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet.

The 2012 IndyCar champion replaces the dispatched Conor Daly in Sonsio Grand Prix of Road America on June 18. Hunter-Reay finished 11th in last Month’s Indianapolis 500 in a one-off effort for Dreyer and Reinbold Racing.

Hunter-Reay raced for Andretti Autosport from 2010-2021 before being replaced by Romain Grosjean for the 2022 season. The 18-time IndyCar race winner logged 15 wins for the team including the 2014 Indianapolis 500.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native briefly tested for ECR at Barber Motorsports Park in 2021 and at Sonoma Raceway in 2014.

“I was surprised when I got the call from Ed. He described how frustrated he was that his team has not been able to realize its potential despite their efforts, investments, as well as technical and personnel changes over the past few years and asked for my help. Ed and I are very close friends and have been for a long time. I’ve worked with the team in the past and they are a very talented group with high expectations and a committed partner in BITNILE.COM,” Hunter-Reay said.

“This will certainly be a challenge for me as well. It’s a tough situation jumping in a car in the middle of the season without any testing in what I believe to be the most competitive series in the world.
