Jack Harvey hit with 9 place grid penalty for Iowa Race 1

Jack Harvey has been issued a nine-place grid penalty for today’s Hy-Vee Homefront 250 at the Iowa Speedway.

The Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver triggered a multi-car incident on the opening lap of last weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto. The penalty comes in result of rule 9.3.3 of the IndyCar rulebook:

“The primary responsibility for avoiding contact with a Competitor resides with the overtaking Competitor and the secondary responsibility resides with the Competitor(s) being overtaken. A Competitor who fails to demonstrate their responsibility and initiates a maneuver that results in contact with another Competitor may be penalized.”

The regulation also says that the sanction must be served at the next race if it can’t be applied at the event the infraction took place.
