Will Power crossed the 70 career pole mark by sweeping the poles for this weekend’s Hy-Vee IndyCar Weekend at Iowa Speedway.
Power lapped the 7/8 mile short oval with a pair of sub 17.73 second laps to claim his 68th and 69th career Indy car pole positions. The run also brings his pole tally up to 7 at the series’ shortest oval.
“Last year it was cool because I needed to win those poles,” said the two-time NTT IndyCar Series champion. “It’s cool this year because I want to win this race.”
Scott McLaughlin sealed out a Team Penske front row while matching his best career oval start in the process. Josef Newgarden brought up a Team Penske 1-2-3 run during race one. A slow second lap relegated the four-time Iowa race winner down to seventh for race two.
David Malukas recorded his career best start of third in Race Two.
Six-time series champ Scott Dixon logged the fourth quickest lap in Race 1 – his best start since Detroit in June. He only mustered the ninth fastest Lap in Race 2.
Part-time owner driver Ed Carpenter attained the fourth quickest Lap for Race 2 – which stands as his highest starting spot since last years Indianapolis 500.
Rounding out the top five in both races were Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta.
