Will Power and Team Penske will continue their illustrious relationship for two more seasons at least.
The Aussie confirmed the news to NBC Sports’ Marty Snyder during the qualifying broadcast for tomorrow’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
“It’s fantastic; I really love being at the team,” Power said after qualifying. “They’ve been very loyal to me. It’s just awesome to be a part of such a great organization with a great sponsor like Verizon and Chevy.”
Power has etched his mark in the record books since joining Penske in 2009 as a fill-in for Helio Castroneves.
The Aussie has logged 36 of his 39 career wins with the team including a win in the 2018 Indianapolis 500 and the series championship in 2014. That slots him fifth on the all time list tied with 4-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser.
He leads all active drivers with 62 poles and trails Mario Andretti by sixth on the top spot.
Power’s re-signing leaves Simon Pagenaud as the team’s final driver to be confirmed for 2022 and beyond.
