Jimmie Johnson might be sidelined for this weekend’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
The driver of the No. 48 Carvanna Honda hopped a curb and smashed into the Turn 5 tire barrier. On board footage shows that his right hand stayed on the steering wheel at the point of impact.
The seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion limped his car around the 1.98-mile street circuit back to pit lane.
Johnson shared an update via social media with his right arm wrapped in a spint-
“Hey everybody, as you can see I’m a little banged up and have a splint on. First and foremost, apologies to the fans at the autograph session that I wasn’t able to attend. I’d already got something else going on here.
“I’m on my way to be further evaluated, just to get a good honest look and understand what my options are. We really don’t have any clarity at this point, and I look forward to updating you all very soon.”
