Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin Team Penske teammates Josef Newgarden and Will Power in Saturday’s practice prior to qualifying for the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix.
The New Zealander blitzed the 2.1-mile street circuit in 1:15.4809s, the fastest lap so far of the weekend. He pipped Newgarden by nearly .2945s while Power completed the sweep at 1:15.7554.
Alexander Rossi carried the banner for Andretti Autosport in fourth while AJ Foyt Racing rookie logged the fifth quickest lap of the session.
Yesterday’s second-place man Felix Rosenqvist ended up sixth despite nailing the wall late in the session.
Andretti Autosport teammates Romain Grosjean and Colton Herta secured seventh and eighth while rookies Christian Lundgaard and David Malukas filled out the top ten.
Rinus VeeKay brought out the lone red flag of the 45 minutes session 90 seconds in. The Dutchman locked up going into Turn 9 and crashed into the barrier.
Graham Rahal, Devlin Defrancesco and Felix Rosenqvist also found the wall but continued on with minimal damage. Herta, Simon Pagenaud and Marcus Ericsson all slid off track but suffered no damage.
