IndyCar granted Josef Newgarden the medical clearance for this weekend’s Gallagher Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
A suspension failure causes the 31 year old to crash out of the lead in Sunday’s Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300 at Iowa Speedway.
Newgarden gave a lucid TV interview, but fainted in the motorcoach lot shortly after. He was airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital for overnight evaluation.
The hospital released Newgarden the next day while Team Penske announced that Santino Ferrucci would substitute for the two-time NTT IndyCar Series champion if needed.
He was given provisional clearance on Thursday before getting the final okay after opening practice today.
He logged the second quickest time in practice – 1.10.1121s, behind Alexander Rossi.
